Problem with duration dates miscalculation

On a project plan we have used for some time we have a fixed duration task
which start date 26 Jan 2006, which has a duration of 32 days and Microsoft
Project calculates the Finish as 8 Mar 2006???? When it should be 32 days.
I have checked the calendar and the working days are only Monday to Friday
each week with no holidays. I have tried changing to fixed units and
deleting the duration start date etc. and then retyping but nothing seems to
help.

What else could be causing this miscalculation? How do I troubleshoot this
problem?

I have created another task, in the same project, with the same parameter
and the miscalculation happens. If however I open a new project and enter
the same parameters I get the correct end date of 10th March 2006. Please
help I am going this problem is driving me insane.

Thanks in advance

As far as troubleshooting goes, switch to Calendar view and track your task.
Did you see any weekends where you have scheduled to work. We are looking
for things to shorten the duration - extended work hours within the 32 days
or weekend workdays.

The other place to check is in the Tools, Options... to ensure a work day is
8.00 hours and a work week is 40.

Hopefully helpful,

Thanks for the reply Dick. I checked the calendar for weekends, extended
hours etc, 5 days week, no weekend working, 8 hours days, 40 hours weeks but
nothing helped.

I could email project to you if you could spare the time to take a look? Let
me know your email ([email protected] is mine)

Have you checked your default hours/wk? If you do a Tools, Change
Working Time, then click on the options button, you might see the cause
of the discrepancy there.
Hope this helps in your world.
