Problem with embedded Microsoft Equations

A problem has just re-occurred that I once had years ago. I'm using Office
2000 on Win2K Pro.

Suddenly Microsoft Equation doesn't work any more in embedded form. When I
click on an equation, I get the standard message "the server, application,
or source file can't be found."

Nor can I insert an equation object.

I have tried completely disinstalling and reinstalling office, and it
doesn't matter - something is broken.

The only thing I've done recently is install a new version of WinZip, and
it's kind of hard to to imagine that had anything to do with it.

Fortunately, I can still start the equation editor in standalone mode and
copy and paste back and forth between an Office document and the equation
editor, but it's kind of a pain, as you can imagine.

Does anybody know anything about this particular problem? As I mentioned in
the beginning of the message, it happened years ago to me with Win95.

I'm guessing that some "thing" at system level must have happened or gone
missing (like some OLE DLL or whatever). But I wouldn't know enough to even
know where to start looking.

Thanks for any pointers,

John
