Problem with "Files of type"

M

Word 2003 on Windows XP

When I open (File-Open) (Ctrl+O) (icon of open folder on standard toolbar),
I now sometimes get Files of type: Word 6.0/95 for Windows & Macintosh
(*.doc). Usually I get Files of type: All Files (*.*), which is what I want.
How do I correct this problem, which started a couple of months ago? Should I
change the normal.dot template?

Thank you.

Try this...

(Ctrl+O) then choose file type you want to be default. Then choose CANCEL

(Ctrl+O) should then bring up your last choice by default...

Thank you for providing this suggestion. It worked until I opened a PDF
file. Then I got the Word 6.0/95 for Windows & Macintosh (*.doc) problem
again. I uninstalled and reinstalled the Adobe Reader, opened PDF files, and
do not have a problem getting Word 6.0/95 for Windows & Macintosh
(*.doc). I'll see if the solution is sustained.
