Problem with Find command

Avetis

Hi,
I am using Word 2002. I have a mysterious problem with "Find" command when
working with Unicode texts written in Armenian. When I try to find, for
example, Armenian capital letter Da [chrw(1332)] with "Match case" option
turned on, the program returns both the searched character, and the sequence
of small letter Da [chrw(1380)] followed by Optional Hyphen character. This
is happening with all letters of Armenian alphabet. The same happens when
searching the small letters, i.e. the program returns the searched letter and
the correspondent capital letter followed by Optional Hyphen sign.
When "Match case" option is unchecked everything appears to be OK.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,

Avetis

Hi Avetis,

I can't reproduce that bug in Word2003 (Win XP) or Word2000 (Win98).

It may be a bug that's special to Word2002, but if not: Perhaps there's something else that might be relevant?
Which font do you use? Do you insert the optional hyphen with Ctrl+Hyphen (= Alt+031)?

I can imagine that the optional hyphen might cause weird things: This and the non-breaking hyphen (= Alt+030) are the only characters in Word that don't correspond to the Unicode Standard.

Hi Avetis,

I tried with Sylfaen, and still can't reproduce.

Maybe somebody with Word2002 installed can look into it?

And maybe you could mail me a test document, in case there's something special about that?

Regards,
Klaus

Dear Klaus,
I am absolutely sure that this problem is not specific to the document, but
Word2002. I have checked it with a friend who has the Word2003 installed and
there was no problem.
So the problem is with Word2002. Do you think it is possible to find a fix
to this bug?

Avetis

You could make sure you have all the latest updates and patches.
If that doesn't help, Word2003 is probably the only practical bug fix...

Klaus
