Problem with first task

C

Chris

Hi all

I have Project 98 and all I am trying to do is enter the first task with a
duration of 1 day. The problem is it that it seems to automatically set the
end date to the following day and not the same day!

Start Date : Wed 5/5/04
End Date : Thu 6/5/04

I have no idea why it's doing this - can anyone help please?

Cheers

Chris,
I would start by checking the Calendar settings under Tools/Options. The
default should be:
Start - 8:00
End - 5:00
Hours per day - 8
Hours per week - 40

If your settings are at these default values then I would check the
Start time of the task. Go to Tools/Options View tab. Select any Date
Format that includes the time. If the first task shows a Start time of
later than 8:00:00, that will bump the Finish to the next day.

Also check to see if there is a start constraint on the task. Simply
double click on the task to open the Task Information window. Hit the
Advanced tab. The Constraint Type should be "As-soon-as-possible" unless
you entered a Start date directly for the task. Then the Constraint Type
will be "Start-no-earlier-than". If there is a date in the Constraint
Date box, its Start time must be 8:00:00.

If everything still looks ok, go to Tools/Change Working Time. Assuming
you are using the default standard calendar, check that the default
start time is 8:00, at least for the day you want the task scheduled.

Hopefully one of these items will uncover a problem.

What time is it set to start? One "day" is 8 working hours by the standard
calendar settings. If your task starts Wed at some time into the workday
instead of right at the start of the day, and if the calendar shows hours of
work less than 8 hours, one "day" of work won't be completed until well
into the following day. The project calendar should show that actual hours
of work while the value for hours per day in the Tools Options Calendar page
should conform the the hours designated in the project calendar.
