Hi,

I think we detected some incompatibility with Korean documents in format
WordML in Word2007 .
Please dowload the file korean.xml from:
ftp://ftp02.irislink.com/ocr/vrl/office2007/korean.xml

All the Korean characters are dislayed as dots! ...

However, exactly same file is opening fine using Word 2003.
We also made other test using other asian languages, like Japanese,
SimplifiedChinese, TraditionalChinese, and all those languages are working
fine. Only documents with Korean characters are incorrectly displayed.

Thank you for your feedback,

I'm seeing the dots in word 2003 - it tries to display the text using "MS
Mincho" (no mention of that font in the xml code, just one of my system's
default fonts)
also seeing the dots in word 2007 - "Times New Roman" this time.

selecting the text and setting the font to "Batang" shows the text properly,
then save the changes and it works in both 2003 and 2007.

I assume you're testing the latest version of the IRIS OCR system, so you
may have to check the Word ML documentation to make sure your xml output
system is setting the fonts correctly.

Hi Patrick,

The XML file set off my virus scanner, so can't check it.

I'm not sure to what extent this would be influenced by the lack of Korean language direct support in the beta version of MS Office
2007. (Base languages are English, French, German, Japanese and Spanish).
Korean, along with other languages will be added in the release product and the results may vary based on your installed fonts and
the settings for enabled language settings in Start=>Programs=>Microsoft Office Tools.

You may want to also followup in the Office XML newsgroup on this (link below).

as I said in my post, the file doesn't display properly in 2003, either. I
still believe the problem is in the program used to create the file,
specifically in the way that program sets the fonts for the text. Korean text
does display properly in 2007, if you are viewing a file that was created in
office, rather than some other program.

how do you get Japanese language support working? I tried setting it in
office 2007 language settings, but it says "limited support", and when I go
back into language settings, it has removed it from the list of enabled
languages.
