Problem with fractions autoformatting

Does anyone know how to turn off the fraction autoformat feature in the OS X
(I'm on panther) of MS Word?

Thanks, Carolyn

What version of Word? You can hit cmd-z right after transformation to undo
it individually.

I think it should be controlled by Tools | AutoCorrect, AutoFormat As You
Type "replace symbol characters with symbols", and that the failure for that
checkbox to control it is a bug, but I only know Word 2004. In Word 2004 I
can tell you how to turn it off permanently, but I have no idea how it would
ever be turned back on.

I'm on word 2004, version 11.1

Undoing is too annoying, as I write/edit recipes a lot during the day. I'd
like to specifically turn off the fraction autoformat without effecting
other symbol autoformatting if possible, as I do use the other autoformat
options.

Thanks, Carolyn

In that case....

After it corrects, hover over the fraction. A blue line will appear. Move
slightly down until the blue line turns into a lightning icon with an arrow.
Click on the arrow, and a menu will appear.

Option two--stop automatically correcting fractions. This should turn it off
forever, I think. However, I haven't tested this, because I can't figure
out how to turn it back on. I suspect that generating a new preferences
file would reset it, but I don't know and since I like fractions, am not
trying to test it in my main account and am too lazy to switch users.

Any results you have to share will be appreciated.

Hi Daiya (and users),
Any results you have to share will be appreciated.
Thanks a lot, it worked, even when I quit and restarted word. I don't see
how to change it back either, but that's fine with me! Thanks again.

It can be turned on again by a VBA macro, I believe. I think JE McGimpsey
might have the code.

But, Daiya, I know for a fact you've got a copy of my Take Control ebook
on Word (because I sent it to you), and the answer is given there
(volume 2, page 16) - there's a script in the book that you can just
click on, then run it, and it turns the feature back on.

On the other hand, as we've established here, if you ever choose Stop
Auto-Capitalizing First Letter of Table Cells, you can never turn it
back on (without throwing away your prefs). m.

Thanks Matt. I knew your book talked about the table correction, but didn't
remember that it also dealt with the fractions. And haven't reviewed it
since I read it very promptly on receipt months ago. :)

And I think I missed the point that the Table correcting was different from
the other autocorrects.

Hi Paul:

"Fractions" is simple:

Sub EnableFractions()

Options.AutoFormatReplaceFractions = True

End Sub

But I believe Matt is correct: if you turn off Initial Cap in tables, you
have to hammer a preference to get that one back because it is not exposed
to VBA.

Cheers
