Hi,

I have an excel document with a lot of sheets in. I have a couple of columns
on some of the sheets that are formatted to "General" and which links to
text on other sheets. The problem is that every time that I change this
cells the formatting changes to "Text" and I need to update the format to
get the reference again.

Any ideas?

Best regards,

This is excel trying to help.

If you format A1 as a date and put =A1 in another cell, excel formats that
formula cell the same as A1.

The same thing happens with formulas that refer to text cells.

I think the only thing you can do is try to keep from updating the formulas or
just reformat as general and then F2, then enter to convert the "text formula"
to a "formula formula".

Sometimes it's useful (as with date cells), sometimes it's irritating.

I was just reminded about that today, and remembering
that Conditional Formatting can also be copied with
the format painter.thought I'd best check that out.

The assignment only affects normal number formatting and does
not affect Conditional Formatting. (Which I'm sure I would have
noticed if it had).

Thank you, changing from text to general worked fine... I would not have
figured that one out by my self... :/
