Problem with hit counter.

Hello,

I seem to be having a problem with FP's built-in hit counter. It used to
work flawlessly, but now the hit couner image seems to be getting "lost" all
the time. I'm not sure if this is a FrontPage problem, an IE problem or
what.

If you go to my site (http://home.comcast.net/~vikenk) and scroll to the
bottom, you will see that instead of the hit counter, you'll see the small
red X followed by the words Hit Counter. At the moment, it works in
Firefox, but not in IE.

I keep on removing the hit counter, saving it, and restoring it, but the
image keeps getting lost. I've restored it several times in the past three
weeks but it keeps getting "lost" after a few hours or couple of days. I
just restored it about 3 hours ago and it was working, but now the image is
gone again. It still shows up in FireFox now, but I suspect that it won't
last long.

The interesting thing is that when the image is gone in IE, it also seems to
lose count. For example: I go to Firefox and the counter reads, say, 4000
hits. I'll open my site in IE (with missing hit counter image) and reload it
10 times. When I reload Firefox, it still reads 4000, not 4011.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Works fine in IE 6.0 here.

Since you're using one of the "built in" images in fpcount.exe ( image
number 1 ) there's no way the image can get "Lost."
the page is slow to load because of all of the other images in it, but that
"shouldn't" effect the hit counter image.

Have your tried clearing the browser cache ( temporary internet files ) and
then checking the page??

Also, if you want to make a custom image, white numbers on a black
background, here's a little tool that will make it for you:

When the image opens in Paint, make sure to save it as a .gif

Hmmm. Won't work for me. I'll try clearing ou the cache and see what
happens. Do you think it may have anything to do with IE's Security or
Privacy settings?

Thanks for the link on the custom images. I'd much rather have the white
numbers on black, but didn't like any of the built-in options. Thanks.

P.S. Comcast's free-with-your-account web servers are sooooooooooo slow! I
need to get a better webhost.
