Hi all - I am a newbie (somewhat) to Macs and need assistance with a little
problem I am having.

I have an iBook (G3 purchased a couple of years ago) and just reinstalled
Max OS S Panther as a "clean" installation. I used the Mac file system
(journalled) and when I try installing the Office 2004 Test Drive, I get the
error that it cannot run from a Read-only volume. I installed to the Mac
harddrive and checking with the disk utilities, it shows the drive as being
read/write. ;(

Please help this hopeless newbie to install the test drive - I really want
to use the Mac more often but this problem is really limiting. If you need
more details, I will be happy to supply them - I am a babe in the woods when
it comes to reinstalling Mac OSs, but can do Windows in my sleep. Perhaps I
should take a nap??

Did you get an answer already, Millie? I've bee away from here for a few
days and don't see a reply.

First Repair Disk Permissions from /Applications/Utilities/Disk
Utility/First Aid. Also check System Preferences/Accounts/Security and check
that you do NOT have FileVault on. Then Apple menu/Log Out and log in.

You have probably have installed the Test Drive to the /Applications folder,
although there are other possible locations. If you did, repairing disk
permissions should fix this problem.

Thanks Paul - I had tried some of what you suggested but not all. At any
rate, I just ordered Office 2004 from the "store" and it should arrive here
this week. I have a feeling I was trying too many things at once.
