Problem with incoming mail not getting to the Journal on some cont

I have a situation where several of my contacts do not get
their incoming mail recorded in the journal. All of my other contacts'
incoming emails get journaled just fine.

The problematic contacts have email addresses, and their entries are checked
in the journal / options / contact name check list.

I tried deleting and re-creating these contacts, to no avail.

Any ideas of where to look?
