Problem with list of last documents used

When I have finished using a spreadsheet, I save it and
the name of this document appears at the head of the list
of programs last used (under the FILE tab).

After Excel has been closed and then reopened, this name
has disappeared.

How do I get Excel to retain the name of the last program
used?
