I have microsoft word for mac. When I have been sending documents to
others they say they cannot open them because my document is not in ms
word format. However, when I save my documents I am selecting "word
format." Is there something I am doing wrong? Please help.

Usually the problem is at the other end. Possibly with a bit of help
from somebody's ISP.
Make sure your documents contain a .doc suffix to the filename. Believe
it or not, there are operating systems out there that cannot proceed
without some magic string in the rightmost part of the name of the
file.
If you are using Apple's Mail.app, select edit » attachments » send
Windows friendly attachments.
If that does not help, zip before sending.
(In recent versions of OS X, right-click or ctrl-click and choose make
archive) attach that to your mail and see if it makes them any happier.

Once you get that working OK, the next thing they complain about is the
broken pagination and incorrect page numbers.
Print to PDF and send them one of those instead^h^h^h as well, along
with a note that says if they see anything different in Word, you can't
help that, they have the wrong printer.

You may be sending an archive (stuffit) file. Without an extension, most
applications won't recognise it.

Make sure you send a .doc file, and ensure you either use no compression, or
..zip compression (so: .doc.zip)

Also: Make sure your mail program is sending in MIME format. Not all
Windows mail programs can cope with UUEncode, and none of them will cope
with BinHex.
