yesterday when i opened up excel a dialogue box appeared stating that
there were serious problems with MSN Money Stock Quote (can't remember
the exact words). Today when i hit the update stock quote button on my
tool bar nothing happened. So i've uninstalled/reinstalled the add in
and now the tool bar is only two icons (one "refresh" and the other
"stop" icons) and they don't do anything either. anyone else
experiencing this problem? suggestions? please advise. thanks!

Mr McRitchie's reply is marginally useful regarding the question which
essentially is asking for a fix to the stock download add-in problem to get
it work again.

The first link is only helpful if you want to roll your own solution and can
code in VB (if you don't know that VB is Visual Basic you may want to look
but ...).

The second link is useless unless you want to cut and paste. I have 20+
stocks I want to update each night and this option is a non-starter.

The fix is one of these (there may be others) :
A. Release a new add-in. Neither MS office pages or MSN Quotes pages
identify this problem. This is a smart add-in (analysis32.xll) written in C
(see .xll per Mr McRitchie's site links ) that looks for avariable number of
stocks starting in row 3 of column 1 and builds a URL to
http://investor.msn.com/external/excel/quotes.asp?SYMBOL+<stock1>+<stock2>+...<stockn>
I have Office 97. Given MS's penchant to not spend much support older
products, this is almost a null path. We need a write-in campaign to both
MS Office and MSN to make this happen.

B. The really useful, transparent fix would be if MSN would provide an
alias URL to take the old URL and transform it to the new one and return data
in the old format (I'd even accept a new format and change my Excel
speradsheet). Again we need a write-in campaign.

Has anyone found a MS/MSN support page to accomplish the write-in campaign?

Bon Fortune.

Mike
