Problem with music

Hello,
I put together a Memorial Day Presentation in 2006 for my church. I had the
music on CD and basically I just timed the presentation and started them both
together which worked fine for that purpose.
People began to ask me if I could give themj a copy of the Presentation. I
really had to answer no because I didn't have the music imbedded and the
presentation wasn't nearly as good without the music.
It has become ever more popular so I decided to imbed the music (.wav) and
then put the presentation on our website so people could view it or DL it.
The problem is that the 1st song that should start up with the 1st slide
just will not start up. There are 3 other songs and they start up as timed
but the 1st song just won't.
I have tried a different song with same results. I have tried everything I
know but it continues to run the slides without music until the 2nd song
begins.
Can anyone help me?

Please tell us which version of PowerPoint your using. How you inserted your
sound files. In the mean time you may want to look her for a solution

I have 2002. The presentation works just fine on my computer. When I upload
to my website and the presentation is opened or DL'd from the website is when
it has the problem.

Ah -- that might be your problem. The music file is likely stored
externally, which means that PowerPoint looks for it at a specific location
on a system drive (local or LAN). It knows to look at c:\music or e:\clips
or \\server\files\sound. However, it does not know how to look at
www.domain.com/folder.

I'm guessing the one that doesn't play is either an MP3 file or a WAV file
that is larger than the threshold set in Tools | Options | General | Link
sounds.

Rick and Michael, Thanks for your responce..
The music is WAV. How does it find the other songs but not the 1st? I tried
different songs just to be sure that they were truly .wav but none work at
start up. I increased the threshold to 50000 but still didn't work. The 1st
song in the presentation is smaller in size then the ones that work.

You still have not told us how you inserted your music file. The easiest way
is to put all your music files into the same folder as your PowerPoint
presentation before you insert them. Only wav files get inserted, and if
they exceed the max 50000kb they will also be linked, If your saving as a
web page, then that is another kettle of fish.

Sorry about that, I will try to give you all the info.

I inserted the .wav files by going to Insert/Movies and Sounds/Sounds from
File and clicking on the appropriate song. Once added I went to Slide
Show/Custom Annimations/Effect Options and set it to start with previous, and
run through slide 17. I did the same thing with each song telling them where
to start and finish. It works just fine.

I then uploaded it to my website FTP. The problem only occurs after it is
opened from the link on my webpage or downloaded from the link. The problem
only occurs on the 1st song. The next songs start as timed.

I agree that it is (probably) some kind of linking problem because if I open
from the webpage with my computer OR if I download it to my computer from the
website... It still works. (But as you said, I have the song on my computer
so maybe it is linking) BUT if anyone else opens or dl's the presentation on
their computer the 1st song will not play but all the others work as timed.
They do not have the music on their computer for it to link to but the other
songs still work. Why is it that only song 1 fails?

Something you can try, is to insert a blank slide at the beginning of your
presentation with 0 timings. sometimes when your doing it from the internet
the slideshow will start after some of the transitions have already ready
taken place and will not appear to be working. I'm more inclined to believe
that when you download your own presentation, the links are re established
as that is where they started from in the first place. Could you provide us
with a link so we can have a look?
