Problem with nested indexing

I saw your question when you posted it but didn't have an answer. You gave a
good description of the problem there. If you want to get one here, I would
suggest reposting the question. Most of the people answering questions here
use newsreaders rather than the web to interact with these newsgroups and
the link you gave would require three or four pastes into a browser window.
I doubt too many people will be that interested in finding out what help you
need.

I thought cross-posting was a no-no since the question could be
answered in one group, but other groups might not know this happened.
That's why I tried to link to the original post, but <cr>s got added
to the URL somehow.
Anyway, here it is again:

In a large (French) document, my nested index entries
(that worked fine in Win98se/Word97)
--are showing up as:-----
Animals
Cats
Animals
Dogs
--instead of:------------
Animals
Cats
Dogs

Cross-posting is preferred (in the MS.Word newsgroups) if multiple
newsgroups are needed. Multiple copies of the same post are a real pain.
When a single post is cross-posted, it shows up in each newsgroup but
newsreading software will post replies to all newsgroups where it was posted
and will show it as read in all newsgroups once it has been read in one.

Only to check and triple-check whether the Word "Animals" is really
written in the very same way in both XE-entries ...?

And maybe fiddle with the \z INDEX switch: is it there and which value
has it got?

No "\Z" in the Index field, only "\e", and the XE fields don't have
any switches. Works fine in Word97. Doesn't work in Word2002 or
2003.
By the way: What is the Z switch for?

That switch determines the language. If you enter an Index via the
Menue, you get to chose a language for it.

Some special characters like German "Umlauts" sort differently that way,
though all in all, the observed orders seem pretty buggy IMHO!
