Problem with opening excel files

I cant open any excel file. If i double click to open it, well it opens excel
but i cant see anything. The only way is to drag&drop the file on to excel
allready opened. And olso if i try to open an excel file from an atachement
(OE) i get the following messege : excel cant find the file in the temporary
folder. I am using Windows XP updated , i did not make the update for windows
sp2. Please help
