Can someone please help me figure out a problem I'm having with
Outlook?
Our office has about 30 PCs running XP SP2. These are fairly lean
boxes, with only Office 2003, FileMaker Pro, Retrospect Backup Client,
Roxio CD burning software, IE6 or IE7, Adobe Acrobat Standard 6.0 and
Trend-Micro AV. One of the most frequent problems I encounter is with
Outlook 2003 locking up. Our users complain that "Outlook is always
slow," that it crashes, doesn't work, etc. While those terms might not
be accurate to describe what is really happening, it's what I hear
from users.
Here's typically what happens: a user calls me because Outlook "won't
work." Upon arriving at his or her desk, I see that the Outlook title
has "Not Responding" in the toolbar. To fix it, I have to kill both
OUTLOOK.EXE and WINWORD.EXE. Upon reopening, the archive folders file
is usually corrupt.
I have observed the lockup in progress a few times, and it usually
happens when either opening an Outlook folder, opening a message, or
creating a new email. I have checked the "Sync Issues" folder, but see
no problems with that. Our Exchange server is local, and everyone has
a 100 Mbps LAN connection. Some users have Google Toolbar installed
(not Google Desktop Search), but I have all Outlook add-ons disabled.
The only users who never have trouble with this are our 10 graphic
designers. They run Entourage 2004 on Mac OSX. Their email never locks
up!
Can anyone help point me in the right direction to solve this problem?
Or is this just the way it is?
Thanks.
