Problem with Page Numbers

N

Noor

I am working on a document that contains multiple sections
and page numbers format are X-1....X-n (where X is the
section number) with mirror margins, and different header
and footer on even and odd pages.

Most of the text is in two columns layout, but in between
the two columns, there are numerous tables and pictures
that use single column layout. Whenever I change layout of
a selected area from two to single column layout, Word
inserts "Section Break (Continues)" and the page numbering
(and even/odd pages) gets disturbed. Even if I change the
page numbering to continue from the previous section, it
does not get fixed. For instance page number 2-2 appears at
numerous pages and there is no way except to manually
adjust the page number from the selection of "Start from.".

I would be looking forward for any help on this subject
problem.

Thanking You,
Noor ul Hassan.

Hi Noor,

The problem comes from the section breaks that are in the
"middle" of the page: you're not able to access their
properties via View/Headers and Footers.

Best bet is to use a manual Page Break (Ctrl+Enter) somewhere
within the continuous section so that you can access the
header/footer. Make the necessary changes, then delete the
page break.

just a thought: you might not need the extra section breaks at all if
you position your tables and pictures as "floating" instead of inline.
I'm usually not very fond of that method, but in your case it might well
be worth the effort.
