Problem with picture fill in textbox

Word 2007
When I try to insert a picture as a fill for a text box, it asks me to
convert file from:
then it offers a list. When I choose the type of file the pic is eg. corel
draw, pdf etc it says "an error occurred while importing this file.
Can anyone shed any light??
