Problem with Project 2000 changing Pred/Succ Types/Lags

I have encountered an apparent bug in Project 2000 that I
haven't seen any discussion on or a posted Microsoft fix.

I am rearranging a large project file and when I cut and
paste a task that has a large number of predecessors and
successors I find that Project changes the "type (ie FS,
SS)" of network link and the "lag" on a number of the
links.
I have to manually change them back to the correct links.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? It is very
annoying to work around. I downloaded the SR-1 patch but
it didn't fix the problem.

mls,
Why are you cutting and pasting to rearrange the file? A much better
method is drag and drop. Without knowing the details of the cut and
paste operation it is difficult to say why the links are being changed.
I suspect the response you are seeing is not a Project bug but simply an
unexpected result of the method you are using (i.e. cut and paste) and
the complexity of the network.

Do you have the option for autolinking new or moved tasks set (i.e.
Tools/Options/Schedule tab)? That may or may not be causing some of the
problems.

You say the tasks you are moving have a large number of predecessors and
successors. Although it is possible to have a large number of links on
certain tasks, it should be the exception and not the rule. A good
project plan should have a clear logic path with most tasks having only
a few (ideally one or two) predecessors and successors.

Hope this helps.
John
