Problem with "Provide Feedback with sound" option in Office 2004

Hi,

Our office just switched from Office 98 on OS 9.2 to Office 2004 on
intel iMacs with 10.4.5. On our old Macs in office you would get a
sound when you saved documents. I went onto an old Mac and there is an
option to "provide feedback with sound" under Word 1998, on the new Mac
in Word 2004 there is the same option.

We have selected this option, but do not get any sounds when we save or
do other commands in Office. Is this an Intel iMac thing or am I
missing something?

Thank you!

It is not an Intel-specific problem. This happens on PowerPC Macs as well.
Mine is currently "mute" as well. I forget the solution, but I'm sure
someone will come up on it soon.

As far as I know, there is no real solution to it, apart from turning the
option back on when you can't hear the sounds anymore. Some unknown event
seems to deactivate this option, and I have experienced it a number of
times. Over the past few weeks, I have noticed that it's above all
PowerPoint which "loses" the sounds quite frequently, and it seems to affect
Word consequentially. I've also noticed another strange behaviour in Word:
at times, it seems as if the sounds were gone, but it's only the specific
sound when saving and when clicking on Word>About Word that's no longer
working. The click sound when pasting is still working, as are the sounds
associated with the redo/undo-function. In that case, quitting and
restarting Word restores everything back to normal.

Sorry to be of no big help here; I sure wish I knew the answer to this.

Michel,

You're right! The paste and undo functions DO make noise. Huh. Now I'm
stumped. For some odd reason, I like to hear the Save sound--it reassures
me that I actually hit Save! That is usuallly the first to go.

Didn't someone recently recommend a fix by deleted a .plist file somewhere?
I'll search.

Does anyone know the workaround that mmmmark suggested regarding the
..plist? What us a .plist anyway?

It still is bugging my office. I didn't use the sounds before but some
of my coworkers did...

Still would love to hear any suggestions!

Thanks
