I use Word 2003 on Windows XP. I had to replace my hard drive. After
reinstalling both Windows XP and Word I have a problem. When I click on a
Word document to open it, I get a "Windows Installer" window that opens and
says "Preparing to Install". Simultaneously, an error message comes up
saying "The Command cannot be performed because a dialog box is open. Click
OK and then close open dialog boxes to continue."
Also, previously, when I went to "My Documents" then clicked "File" and
"New" the dropdown menu gave me an option to select "New Word Document" and
create it. Now there is no such option under "File...New". If I want to
create a new Word document I have to do it from the Start menu.
I've tried re-installing using the "repair" option but the problem persists.
What's going on? Why doesn't Word work the way it used to and what can I do
about it?
