problem with renaming web pages

N

Nick

I have created a number of web pages in a single publisher file. When I
rename the webpages using "web page option" to a desired name i want such as
"contactus" and save it and preview it, it still defaults back to "page 001",
"page 002" etc...

How can I correct this?

Thanks,
Nick.

Perhaps you are putting "contactus" in the Page title field? Put it in the
'File name' field.

I have done that. Actually tried to put the same in both but it still goes
back to its auto page numbering system.

You haven't said what version of Publisher you are using but assuming it is
2003 or 2007, then this should be working. I would now guess that you are
looking at old files or links or something. When you Publish to the web
direct your html files to your desktop or some other place where you can
easily find your files. Now open the index_files folder and look for the
..htm files and you should find the custom file names. If not, then I don't
know what to tell you...

You aren't using Pub 2002 are you?

David,

Yes I am using 2003 version. When I refer to the index htm file I have saved
to publish, the names under index_htm folder for the other web pages have not
changed even though I have renamed them. I dont know what's the problem as I
have even tried renaming the htm files under the index_files but then it
doesnt work altogether.

If you were renaming the files correctly in Publisher, or if Publisher was
working correctly, then the custom .htm files would show up in a new,
freshly generated index_files folder that you direct to your local drive as
I suggested. Sorry, but I have not heard of this not working before and
don't have a good solution.

Is this problem is unique to this particular file? Create a new test
Publisher web file with multiple pages, rename a couple pages and Publish to
the web. Do you get custom .htm names now?

If you have the same problem with a newly created file, then you might go to
Help > Detect and Repair and see if that helps.

You might be sure you have the SP installed for Office 2003...

Once again, I am guessing here as I have never run across this problem...
