Problem with Sharepoint Services and Frontpage 2003

Josh Halberthal

Hi,

I am using Frontpage 2003 and had no problem to open my local host
http://localhost/sls until one day I got the following message:

"The webserver at http://localhost does not appear to have Windows
SharePoint Services installed".

What happened and how can I install Windows SharePoint Services to get
running again? I am pretty much at loss and any help is greatly
appreciated.

Thanks, Josh

Sorry but this is the newsgroup for SharePoint Team Services.

You'll find the Windows SharePoint Services newsgroup at

microsoft.public.sharepoint.windowsservices

Please post WSS messages there.

(I've not come across a site being accessed in FP 2003 and then not. Usually
this message has been when someone really hasn't installed WSS at all -
which is obviously an impossible reason in your case.)

Mike,

I have never used SPS nor WSS in my website. I am using straight HTML/DHTML.

I am very grateful for your effort in helping me.

I read the reply to the other message in this thread.

Obviously you *don't* have WSS installed.

I can't see why you need it (and installing it might cause initial problems
with your FP-based site) but the link to the download is under Useful
Documents / MS Articles / Downloads at the WSS FAQ site.

I suspect however that you might be better off not installing WSS but asking
in a *Front Page* newsgroup why you might be getting this message.

Since you are running localhost, what OS, version of IIS, and version of the FP SE do you have installed
- Can you check the FP SE from IIS ?

(FP2003 error messages about WSS may actually be related to the FP SE)
