Problem with Shortcut

When I try to open a shortcut for an office document from the start menu I
get an error message that says:
"Problem with Shortcut
The Filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect."

This is really frustrating!

Thanks for your help.

You forgot to say what version of Windows you have.

Here are instructions for Windows XP SP 3, which is what I have.

The left side of the Start menu is for shortcuts. Therefore, simply create a shortcut to your document and drag the shortcut to the Start menu.

1. Open Windows Explorer to the folder where your Word document resides.
2. Right-click on the Word document and drag it to an empty area in the folder.
3. Release the mouse and select 'Create Shortcuts Here'.
4. Drag the shortcut to the Start button and wait for the Start menu to open.
5. Drop the icon on the left side of the Start menu. (It can't go on the right side.)

Remember: Do not delete the original shortcut.

You can do this with most any Office file format.
