Problem with slides

I was new to PP but feel very old now!

A person made a slide show that was shown at an event with a DJ doing
a voice over from a mic. I have the slide show (it was in PP) and
have finally found how to cut the music somewhat using Audacity, and
Lame to produce a .wav file.

I have embedded the music, there are 34 slides but try as I might,
when I click Slide Show the title slide comes up, the music starts,
but it does not transition to the next or subsequent slides and if I
click on to the next slide, then the music starts at the beginning
again.

I have set the slides to do their transition at 00:04 but they don't.

I would appreciate any suggestions - I have this nasty feeling it is
something quite small I have overlooked but I can't find it. I tried
Office online etc. and Help but to no avail.

Did you add the sound under Slide Transition? If so, you have probably added
the sound onto EVERY slide. To resolve this, click Slide Show > Slide
Transition. Click on the Sound dropdown field, select [No Sound]. Click Apply
to All Slides.
Now, go to the slide you want the music to start at. Click on the sound
dropdown field again and look for the music you want. Do NOT Apply to All
Slides.
Is that what you want?

After you insert sound go to custom animation in slide show menu. Move the
sound icon to the top of all the other animations. Right click sound icon
in custom animation list.> click on effects option. It asks you when you
want the music to stop. Click on the one that allows you to set number of
slides. Then the music will play until the 34 slides are shown. They give
you the option to have the music loop if it ends before the 34th
slide...though sometimes I have problems with this. Hope this makes sense

Thanks "Lucretia" - Trish has added a little note to cover this in the email
sounds section!
