Problem with Space indent settings in Word 2002

Hello everyone,

For the longest time I've been living with this problem, where as I'l
be typing along just fine and when the text gets to the end of the lin
at the set margin, it Returns down normally to the next line down t
continue whatever I'm typing. However, if I go Home to the beginning o
a written line and want to move it in a few spaces using the Space bar
the line won't move forward. Tab will move it forward but that's too fa
forward. I just want a couple spaces or however many I need to indent a
a given moment.

How do I tun off whatever it is that's locking the lines this way o
already created pages and also set it along with other forma
preferences, for the opening pages as default?

Also, if I create Tabbed indents for a few bullet points I can't seem t
stop the auto indenting for the bullet points when I'm done with tha
and return to the normal left margin. How do I fix that as well?

Many thanks

When you type spaces at the beginning of a line, they are just added to the
end of the previous line (if you have nonprinting characters displayed, you
can see this). If you insert a line break (Shift+Enter) at the end of the
previous line, you can use spaces as you describe, or you can enable the
Compatibility Option to "Wrap trailing spaces to next line." But it is
better to use a hanging indent when possible.

If you have applied bullets to paragraphs in Normal style, then you can
remove the bullets or press Ctrl+Q to return to the normal unbulleted style.
