Problem with speech

I seem to have a problem with speech recognition in Word. The problem
seems to be limited to Word.

I am unable to activate dictation mode. It seems to work O. K. in
command mode. I've tried most of the message actions from Microsoft men
seem to work. Any ideas?

It works in other office programs. I dictated this message using it.
