problem with Table of Contents

S

Sharon Serguta

When manually marking an entry for a table of contents -
if the entry has quoted material -
This is "a sample" of the text.
And I highlight it and mark it for a table of contents,
Word inserts slash marks in front of the quote marks.
{TC "This is \"a sample\" of the text."}

When the table is generated, the entry appears thus:

This is "a sample" of the text..................2\\

the slash marks appear at the end of the line after the
page number.

I have searched the "knowledge" database and can find no
mention of this problem. Does anyone know of a fix?

Thanks.

Try searching Google instead. This has come up a couple of times before, and
ISTR that someone did come up with a solution, but I don't remember what it
was.

It seems to be a bug. The two known work-arounds are:

Remove the \h switch from the TOC field, which means that only the
page numbers will be hyperlinked, which is probably a good thing
anyway.

OR;

Use two apostrophes instead of a double-quote character.
