Problem with Unit % next to Resource name

P

Phillipa Heyman

Hi, please help.
Every time I change the duration of a particular task the
Unit% (in brackets after the Resource Name) changes and I
can't get it to go back to 100% without affecting the
duration. Please assist if you can.

Thank you!!

Duration is always related to the effort of a resource on a task.
Work=Duration * Effort is an inviolate identity - it always is true and it
is impossible to have a valid schedule where it is otherwise. If you have a
task that is 5 days duration and a resource is assigned to it 100% (assuming
the default calendar) it is a 40 man-hour task. If you change the duration
to 10 days, one and only one of two possibilities can be true - either it
really is an 80 man-hour task (effort remains 100%, fixed effort task and
the work value changes) or it truly was a 40 man-hour task but the resource
will only work on it half of his workday (effort switches to 50%, fixed work
task). Ask yourself which of those two alternatives applies in this case,
it is physically impossible to be anything else, and set the task type
accordingly before you make the edit to the duration. Anything else is
asking Project to allow you to get away with saying 2+2=5 <grin>.
