Problem with upgrade to Intel chip and PowerPoint

I have upgraded to Office X 2004 from Office X when I purchased my
MacBook Pro with the Intel chip. Some of my powerpoint presentations
are several years old and may have some compatibility issues. When I
try to start some of them, PowerPoint won't respond and they won't
open. If I try to open them from the hard drive backup, they do fine
on the new computer. However, if I transfer the file from the backup
hard drive to my new computer, they won't open. The files are
obviously not corrupted because they work fine from the external hard
drive backup. But I need to get them onto my computer so that I can
present them - any ideas?

After you've copied them to the hard drive, start PPT then do File, Open and
try to open one that way. Does that work? If so, save it. I'm guessing that
it'll then open normally when you doubleclick it.
