problem with vista and word 2007

Carlos LL

After editing a word 2007 document, saving it, and closing word, the
program quits fine but I always receive the same message

"The program stopped workind for a problem. Windows will close the program
now and will notify you if a solution exists" (sorry for the bad
translation ).

I'm running office enterprise edition on a windows vista home premium based
machine.

Thanks a lot for your support,

Carlos

No tengo ningún complemento instalado. He probado a quitar el antivirus
(kaspersky) por si acaso pero nada. Tengo instalado el frontpage 2003 (que
instalé unos días después del 2007).

Un saludo y gracias a todos,
Carlos

It might be a corrupted normal.dotm or a corrupted registry entry (usually
the Data key). To test this theory... see if you can open Word using the /a
switch (click Vista's Start button, type winword.exe /a into the Start
Search box, then press Enter). After opening Word this way, see if you can
close it without getting the error.

If you don't get the error when starting Word with the /a switch, try:

1. Renaming Normal.dotm (location varies, but in Vista it should be
somewhere like:
C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates

See if Word can now be opened/closed normally without error. If not, then
try #2.

2. Renaming or deleting the Data key in the registry:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data

Hi. I already did everything what you told me with no results.

I also tried everthing possible as told in this document
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/921541/en-us but it's the same. I've
uninstalled and reinstalled office 2007 but the error persists.

Office 2007 is updated with windows update latest patches

I don't know if there's something else I can do,

Thanks for your support,

Is the problem just for that one document, or does opening/closing Word
without opening/editing any document also generate the problem? If it's just
for that one document, then I would suspect that that document is corrupted.
Try Office button - Open - set the Open dropdown to Open and Repair.

If it's occurring for all or even no documents at all... has it always been
this way, or did it work okay at one point?

If the latter, then the problem might be that an Office or Windows update
caused the problem. I would try to recall when the problem began, and remove
any updates installed at about that time.

If it's always been that way, then other things I can think of that would
specifically cause Word to crash are:

1. Word is reacting to a "bad" printer driver. Try (temporarily, at least)
making a different printer your default.

2. Word is reacting to a "bad" display driver. See if there are updated
drivers for your display adapter.

3. Your Windows user profile has become corrupted. Try creating a new user
(in Control Panel), log on as that user, and see if the problem persists.

If none of this gets you out of the quagmire, then I would take a look at
the application events in the Events Viewer to see if the crash is
generating a specific error code. If so... what error code is it?

I create a new document or open an existing one, work on it for a while and
everthing's fine till the moment I decide to save it and then quit word.
Word saves it ok but when closing the program, the problem appears. I've
tried opening old word 97 documents and new word 2007 documents, but it
seems the problem is not the document I open but the way word closes.

I don't exactly know if the problem is because of office system updates
'cause I installed office and inmediatly installed the updates (I couldn't
tested it).

There's something strange..when the error window appears, you can't see any
specific error code, it just inform about there was a problem and word had
to close (but it didn't closed by chance, I closed it). I attach the office
event log, where you can read everthing's ok.

I'm going to try a graphic card driver update (recommended by windows
update) to see if the error goes on (I didn't know it shold be because a
"bad" or "out-to-date" driver).

Thank you very very very much for your answers,

Anothe cue:

After uninstalling and re-installing office 2007 (completely) this strange
behaviour only happens with documents created with older version of word
(97, xp, ...). If I start a new docuemnt in word and I save it, all is ok.

Thanks in advance,

Sure. Deleting is fine -- as long as there's nothing in it you need/want to
preserve. Being very conservative in my own computing, I'm loathe to delete
something I might need later (this explains why my closets are quite full of
things I "might need" at some undefined point in the future).

If you rename it, I suggest something like BadNormal.dotm or OldNormal.Dotm.
