Thanks Suzanne & Jya for the tips and advice.
I followed and tried out all the options mentioned at
http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ProbsOpeningWord.htm
but the same problem symptom still persisted.

Here are the status :
1)Checked and cfm my CD key is ok, does not begins with GC6J3
2a)I am able to start in safe mode: winword.exe /a.
2ai)did a search for Normal.dot---- no such Normal.dot.
2aii)Word Startup path
Found ~$anstar.dot under C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Startup--
renamed to ~$anstart.old
Found NO *.dot under "real" Startup path by selecting Tools + Options + File
location.
2b) corrupted registry key--- deleted Data Key-- did not fix problem!
2c) Home standalone PC and cdm no network printer drive installed.
2d) not runing Norton AntiVirus & Adoble Acrobat 5 ( removed )

Just to reiterate the problem symptoms:
1) winword able to start ok.
2) when try to open a file or type, encounter below error mssg:
The error sig:
AppName: winword.exe AppVer: 10.0.6754.0 ModName: mso.dll
ModVer: 10.0.6735.0 Offset: 0000de99

Any help to resolve above problem is much appreciated.

Thanks and regards

Hey John,
I had a corrupted file. All other files worked except one. It would give
me a "winword.exe" error after about five seconds (the corruption was on page
65 of a 123 page document). I opened it and did a "save as" (before it could
crash) to an .rtf format. That fixed it. I then reopened it and saved it to
a .doc format.

Sounds like you may have a normal.dot problem. I think every Word edition
has it. Mine is Word 2000. That or you may have printer driver problem that
can be fixed by removing it and reinstalling it.

These links helped me

Good luck!

John, Do you ever get any help? Because I get the same winword.exe error
after reinstalling twice at least.
