problem with word '97 & fonts

Hi,

I am using '97 on XP professional.

I have bulleted text which I created.

I went to change the font. I did a Control + A and then chose a
different font. Now all my text is the character of a block. Only weird
fonts show what it says, like the font Microdot.
Anyone know how to correct this?
