Problem with Word Loading

S

SBarnhart

I keep getting the following error when I try and load word. Im using Office
2007.

"Runtime Error!
Program C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\WINWORD.EXE

R6034
An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library
incorrectly. Please contact the application's support team for more
information."

Any help would be great. I cant figure out the problem and havent found
anything in any forums or support areas either. :)

It sounds like it may not be a word issue, but possibly something has
changed in the system, such as a recently installed program. I am no expert.
My hunch would be to uninstall Office2007, delete any reference to it in
the registry, and then reinstall. This is what one of our IT guys did to fix
an Excel problem I was having. There are a lot of references to the R6034
bug on the open web, but not any solutions I was able to find. Maybe someone
else has seen this error.

Does it start in Safe Mode? From Start, Run, type in

winword /a

and press enter. Word will start in its default install made bypassing
everything else. Does it start?

More than likely your IT guy deleted references to Excel add-ins that are
stored in the Registry. A runtime error indicates a malfunctioning add-in.
The solution is to check your add-ins. Uninstalling and deleting all
references in the Registry is the long path to take for a simple solution.

A runtime error indicates the issue lies in a malfunctioning add-in. As
Terry suggested, start Word by going to Start/Run and running:

winword /a

Then click the Office Button/Word Options/Add-ins. The add-ins that will
load when Word starts are in the Active Add-ins list. Use the Manage options
at the bottom of the dialog box to disable add-ins that are identified as
COM-Add-ins. Those that are listed as SmartTags should be fine. If you see
"Template" listed as the Add-in type you'll need to locate the file (the
location is provided in the dialog box) and move it out of the folder to
prevent it from loading when Word starts. Note you cannot use the Manage
button to disable add-in that a templates (global templates) they must be
moved out of the folder.

The problem actually started when I was installing Office Enterprise after I
had uninstalled it due to the same error message. As is was installing,
anytime it would run across installation items for outlook, I would get the
message I posted here except it was for MSOHTMED.exe. Groove nor Word will
load but Outlook will.

I tried the winword /a and it still didnt load. I dont know what the issue
is. I may have to do the long uninstall. Not looking forward to that. :)

Try starting Word in Safe Mode. It's a little more aggressive than using
winword /a. While starting Word hold the Ctrl key. Continue holding it until
you're prompted to start in Safe Mode.

Also, do you happen use Norton AV? If so, go to Norton Options and in the
Miscellaneous section turn off "Enable Office Plug-in". This option has been
known to cause conflicts in the Office applications and apparently we're
encountering a new strain of odd error messages in Office 2007 due to the
Office Plug-in these days.
