Problem with Word

T

Hiya I am using Microsoft Office professional 2003.
It has works well for many years.

However, last night it started to play up. When I click the icon to open
up a new doc. I get the normal box in the task bar. It starts off saying
Microsoft word, then changes to document1.

However, a page does not open.

When I click on an existing document, the same thing happens but the box in
task bar has the files name.

All other programs in office still work fine

I have tried a repair, I have tried uninstaling and reinstalling the word.
Nothing to date has sorted the issue.

I then tried uninstalling the word then running reg mechanic and
reinstalling word.

The issue is not resolved.

I tried getting online help and was aksed to enter my code, to which I was
told it was invaid.

I am now at a loss.

Does anyone know what could be causing this issue.

Right-click the Taskbar button. Does it show Maximize and Minimize, but
Restore is disabled? If so, Word is opening in a Normal window offscreen
(possibly because you have two monitors, one not turned on?). Open any other
window, then right-click an empty portion of the Taskbar and choose Cascade.
This should bring your Word window back in view. Use the mouse to move and
size it to your preference, then quit Word. When you restart Word, the
window should be where you left it.

Hiya

It is showing maximize & minimize, with restore greyed out.

I only have 1 monitor.

I have just followed the steps you gave me and rostore is now there.

I click on restore and it grays out and the issue is still there. The word
doc does not open.

Did the Word window become visible when you chose Cascade? Did you move and
size it before quitting Word?

If Restore is on the shortcut menu when you right-click on a Taskbar button,
that means that the document is either minimized or maximized. When you
click on it, the document is restored to a Normal window. If that window is
still offscreeen, then you've somehow omitted one of the steps.

Hiya

No the word window did not come visible.

I have not omitted any steps you have given me.

I followed them to the letter.

Restore is again greyed out.

If Word is open in a Normal window, then when you open more than one window
and choose Cascade or one of the tile options, it should become visible. If
it does not, then there is a deeper problem.

Hiya

When I click the Word icon all that happens is a white box shows on the
screen which says

The a blue box in the task bar that says microsoft word, that then changes
to document1 - microsoft word.

This even happens when i click on an existing stored word document and also
when i go to the actual program rather than short cut.

I have no idea what is causing this, but I need it fixing soon as I use
Microsoft word everyday for work.

You seem to be focusing on Restore. Restore is not what you want. What you
want is to select Word and at least one other running program, then
right-click on either one and choose Cascade.

Make sure that at least two programs are running and show up in the Windows
task bar. Then:

1. In the task bar, click on Word.

2. Hold down the Ctrl key, and in the task bar, click on any other program
that is already running.

3. In the task bar, right-click on Word, and click on Cascade.

This should cause Word (and the other program that's running) both to be
cascaded.

Does this work?

Okay, let's start all over again. When you see the Word Document1 button on
the Windows Taskbar, open some other window. It can be anything--Windows
Control Panel, say, or another program. Then right-click on an empty area of
the Taskbar (somewhere that there are not any buttons for running program
windows, and choose Cascade. This should make the Word window and the window
for the other program both appear on the screen, one in front of the other.
Or you can use Tile, and they will appear next to each other. In either
case, you now need to drag and size the Word window to set its new position,
then quit and restart Word.

Hiya

I followed these steps to the letter.

No, that did not work either.

All other programs cascade, but nothing at all happens with the word box
which is in the task bar.

However, I just had a thought. My monitor has Analogue input and digital
input.

I use the digital input. I just manually switched to analogue screen and
word is there.

How do I get it back on the digital screen?

Are you using just one monitor or two at the same time?

If you're using just one, then you need to tell Windows that, so that it
doesn't put Word or anything else onto a phantom monitor. I could tell you
how to do this in Vista, but I don't have complete steps for Windows XP.

For starters, though, right-click on the desktop and choose Display (at
least I *think* that's where you'd start, although I'm not positive that
"Display" is the exact wording, but it will be something like that. In
Vista, it's Personalize - Display Settings... which takes you to the Display
Settings dialog, where you can tell it to use or not use a 2nd monitor.

At this point I think the problem has exited the Word arena and entered the
Windows/hardware arena; you need to find a different newsgroup, I think.

Hiya Herb & Suzanne

I have managed to sort the issue.

Many Thanks for the time and effort you out into trying to sort out my
problem with Word.

Apparently my settings on that one program changed, for some reason. we had
to go to NVIDIA control panel and change back to the original settings.

Many Thanks & Stay Safe
