problem WORD 2003 after update

The problem in fact started with Office 2000. After installing al
updates from the Microsoft website for that version, WORD 2000 crashe
immediately after starting (even before trying to enter anything) : "
problem has occured, application has to be closed ..." (this is a
English translation of the text I receive in my Dutch version so i
might not ppear exactly like that in English).
Since nothing seemed to help (only go back to the clean new instal
from te CD worked) and me wanting to keep up with updates (especiall
for the security) I decided to switch to Office 2003 professional.
Install went fine and again (as one should) I went to the Microsof
site for the newest updates. Note that I tried WORD first an
everything worked fine.
After installing the updates, the same problem occured!! Now in WOR
2003????. Again my only option seems to be to keep working with th
clean install from CD.
No other application of the Office suite suffers from any problem afte
the update, ONLY WORD crashes. The update process always runned withou
any problems.
I have a Pentium 4 system 3.2 Ghz with 1 Ghz of RAM and running Window
XP pro SP2. Alle mentioned Office software is legal and registerd.
I don't like to be unable to update my software, but since I hav
vitually no information about what the error causes, I'm left with
very unhappy feeling about my Office suite.
Thanks for your tim

Thanks Ricvan, but I don't have the chance to repair anything fro
within Word, because the program terminates almost immediately.
Is there anyone who can explain how such things are possible?
I install the product (Office Pro 2003) from the CD and everythin
works fine.
I go to the Microsoft update site, and run their own search fo
updates.
I only install what the site tells me to. Nothing more, nothing les
and after the site tells me everything is up to date, Word doesn't wor
anymore??????
Tried it 3 times, same result.
So now I leave the installation as it is after the CD install, but
really would like to know the reason for this

I tried everything that was suggested in this last reply. Even found a
entry on the Microsoft knowledge base telling more or less the sam
things, but nothing helps.
I also tried only installing the SP2 from the list offered by th
Microsoft search for updates, but still after updating, Word crashe
with the same annoying window "sorry for this inconvenience".
Starting with /a works, but that is not the way I should (and want
keep on working with this software. Something is wrong and it is cause
by simply updating my legal software : frustrating!
Since it is mentioned in some remarks on this subject, my "m
documents" is NOT located on the C: drive (for obvious reasons) but o
another local drive (so NO network drive). I moved it though th
appropriate Windows feature to do so. Moreover, the file is and wa
located there already when I installed Office from the CD's and afte
such full remove-reinstall the problem is gone each time I do so (
went through this proceure about 7 times now, so I know!).
Does anyone have the key to this mistery?
Thanks
