Problems after activating Publisher 2000 on an Office XP system

New Computerrunning Office XP on Windows XP. Old system was Office 2000 on
Windows 2000. Publisher not part of XP office pack. IT reinstalled the 2000
Publisher on my XP system.

As soon as I opened a publisher file, the system went through a quick
profile initialization, which is normal. After that however, Accessâ„¢ opens in
a very limited mode. Only three menus available-- File, Window, and help.
File offers two options--Close and Exit. The Window and Help menus are also
limited.

A reinstall of Office or deleting and recrteation of my profile restores my
Access functionality, until I inadvertently open a Publisher file.

How can Publisher be installed without limiting my use of the Access
application? Any/All suggestions and/or pointers are appreciated.

Thanks

Are you opening Publisher then opening a file? Have your IT person install
Publisher in a separate folder. Works for me. Are you getting an error message?

Look at your compatibility settings.

Thanks for your suggestion. I will pass this along to OUt IT staff.

I had accidentally double clicked a PowerPoint file, which started the
program profile install.

Thanks again.

Further investigation reveals the following:

Only the shortcut to the Access database files seem to be adversely
affected. If I open the Access then open teh database, it opens with all
menus and toolbars available.

I tried deleting the origianl sghortcut and recreating one on my desktop,
but that gave same reduced access results.

Seems that my only way to open these databases now is to open access then
the database. Not as quick, but at least I can still work!

Thanks for your suggestions

HI MAry and all others!

HAd one more idea and it paid off. Checked the Shortcut properties and
noticed that the "Open with" was set to "Microsoft Access for Windows". There
were two choices MS Access and MS Access for Windows; I had not seen this in
the 2000 install, so I changed to simply MS ACCESS and the shortcut now works
as expected.
