Four days ago, we deployed new PC's with Win XP Pro and
Office XP Pro. I converted my Access 97 databases to 2002
OK and they compiled and converted OK, worked fine in a
test environment. Now I'm having a variety of problems
with the databases. The FE & BE are shared over a
network, Access application is installed on desktops.
Checked the libraries and also installed the MS Jet Engine
4.0 SP for XP.
1. Some users can't open the databases - error messages
say " can't find path/file", but it's there and they have
the correct permissions. Gave full permissions to folders
the db resides in.
2. Some users get multiple "data or network error" while
the database is open, without the user doing anything.
Found something that mentioned double-byte characters, but
I don't know what those would be except some foreign
language characters which we don't use.
3. Some get a "There was a problem retrieving printer
information for this object. The object may have been sent
to a printer that is unavailable" error when trying to
view or print a report. We have no printer designations
at all in any event procedure codes.
4. Today we started getting a message on one
database: "MS Access has detected corruption in this file.
To try to repair the corruption, first make a backup copy
of the file. Then, on the Tools menu,...click Compact and
Repair Database. If you are currently trying to repair
this corruption,...recreate this file or restore it from a
previous backup." It won't compact and repair.
Does anyone know the cause and fix for these problems?
Thanks.
