Problems after installing SP2

Help. I have installed SP2 on three occasions. Each time have ended up
using system restore to return to pre-SP2 status. With SP2 installed I
cannot access Internet from Word, Excel, etc.; Word continually crashes; and,
cannot save from Internet into Word any longer. Am very limited in technical
knowledge. Thank you for any assistance provided.

Hi Wings,

I'm assuming you're talking Office 2003 in this case?
If you have an Internet Firewall or Privacy product check
the settings to see if it's allowing the 'new' (updated)
version of the Office apps through. When updating they
often 'see' the changed program as a new/unknown entry.

For crashes, can you be more specific on the error messages
you're seeing and the steps you're following?

Hi Bob.

Yes, I'm referring to Office 2003. The problems occuring in Word is it just
locks up and tells me the program is not responding. Then it gives me the
message do you want to send an error report to microsoft. Also, when I exit
Word it gives me the following messages: 'This file is in use by another
application or user. (c:\Documents and Settings\...\Normal.dot)' and 'Changes
have been made that affect the general template Normal. Do you want to save
these changes?'

I have added all Office 2003 programs to my firewall exception list but it
still does not allow me to access the Internet from these programs. When I
try to use the research function in Word it continually reads searching and
never stops. I am using DSL so it should not be because I don't have an
Internet connection at the time.

I have also run my security programs to make sure I don't have a virus, etc.
and nothing is showing up.

As I said before I am very limited in my technical knowledge so I need
specific instructions. Thank you so much for responding and for any
assistance you can give me.
