Problems after reformatting

I recently had to reformat my hard drive. Since then I've had a hard time
editing with FP. When I try to edit, the page that shows in FP is a document
rather than a web page. I'm somehow not being connected to my site because I
don't get an authorization screen. After I make changes to this document and
save them, obviously they aren't reflected on the web page. I've uninstalled
and reinstalled FP extensions on my site. Even tried removing and
reinstalling FP ~ all to no avail. I'm obviously not technically inclined and
really need some help here. Can anyone offer a suggestion?

Open FrontPage.
Click tools > Options and in the dialog that opens click the "Configure Editors" tab.

Scroll down the extensions list until you see the entry that starts with htm and click it
once.
In the right side under "Editors" make sure that: FrontPage (Open as HTML) is set as the
Default
Then do the same for the html extension and click OK.

Then open your site and a page and see if it opens as html.

Thanks for your help, Steve, but your suggestions didn't resolve the problem.
Got any more ideas??

Was FrontPage already set as the default for those two entries??
Did you close and reopen FrontPage after you changed them. ( if they were changed )

Next suggestion:
Right click the IE icon on the Desktop, and select Properties.
Click the Programs tab.
Make sure FrontPage is set as the default HTML editor.

Let me know the results.

I'm using FP 2003 where htm and html are grouped together and, yes, FP was
already set as the default. FP was also set as the default HTML editor in IE.

Thanks again, Steve. Do you have any other suggestions or do you know where
I should go for further help?

I think I corrected the problem. I emptied all the temporary Internet files
and that seemed to take care of it. The web page opens in FP and I'm able to
edit it. Do you have any idea HOW it resolved the issue?

Thanks so much for all of your help, Steve! I really appreciate it.

Didn't even think of that one, but it's a known, old issue.
Usually when someone tries to use File > Edit with FrontPage from Internet Explorer.

Is there a reason why you shouldn't use File > Edit from IE? I don't know any
other easy way to do it! Please enlighten me. I told you I'm technologically
challenged. LOL
Thanks, Steve.
