Problems automatically checking messages in Outlook 2003

Have installed Outlook 03 on Vista Home Premium. When I start Outlook, the
program does not automatically check for incoming mail. I have unchecked
the box in options to automatically check, applied, rebooted and then
re-checked the box, applied and rebooted the program and still have problems
automatically checking for email. I have also ran detect and repair feature
on Outlook Tool Bar. Still hasn't fixed the problem. Any ideas what to do?

The file that contains your Send/Receive group settings may be damaged. See
http://www.slipstick.com/config/backup2007.asp#vista to help you find the
file, which will have a .SRS file extension. Rename it while Outlook is
closed, then when Outlook is opened, try customizing your settings again.

Thank you. I was searching for answers when I came across something that
worked. I unchecked the offline box and it works like a charm. Thank you
for responding. I'll save it just in case.
