Problems : cannot open mail with attachments- Word, Excel etc

from my Yahoo email accounts.

I have a 733 MHZ PC with Windows ME.

192 RAM and 20 GB HD

Recently I cannot open any attachments like Word or Excel received at
my Yahoo email accounts.

It says:
"Internet Explorer cannot download.....from mail.yahoo.com
Internet Explorer was not able to open this internet site"


I have to forward to it my other email addresses in Outlook Express
and then attempt to forward it...but before forwarding it I click on
the attachment and it opens.

Also every Word or Excel doc I open appears as an icon on my desktop.
So my desktop is filled with these icons.


Probably something minor...but since I am a NON TECHIE ...i don't have
a clue.

Can anyone Pls. help.

Since this only happens with your Yahoo account and not OE then I'd say it's a Yahoo issue rather than an Office issue.

Although it could be a virus scanner issue. What virus scanner do you use?

Also, can you expand on the icons on your Desktop? Are they the documents? Temp files? Right-click one of them and select Properties and provide us with the information you see on the General page such as the File Name and File Type.

I believe Yahoo scans all documents for viruses before it opens an
attachment.

When I click on properties on one of the Word doc icons on my desktop,
I see the following:
File type is Microsoft Word for Windows
Location: C:\Windows\desktop
Size: 54 kb

I hope that the above is helpful.

Do you think the location of MS Word has changed and that is why I
cannot open the Word docs in Yahoo mail ?

I am a NON TECHIE, so any help would be highly appreciated.

Hi Sarah,

The properties indicate it is a Word document so that shouldn't be an
issue.

I don't think this is a case of a virus but it could be your own virus
scanner is preventing you from opening it. What virus scanner do you
use?

Otherwise I'm not sure why you are unable to open file attachments
from your Yahoo account. The error message indicates an issue with
Yahoo, not the Office applications.
