Problems connecting MSP 2003 to WSS: "the specified windows account must be a valid..."

Hi,

I have been looking at various posts already to this dreaded ERROR when
trying to configure the connection to Sharepoint:

"the specified windows account must be a valid user on the specified
sharepoint server computer. furthermore, the windows account must be in
the sharepoint central administrators group"

I have installed MSP 2003 with SP1 and WSS with SP2.

- MSP with SP1 is working perfectly fine.
- WSS by itself is also working perfectly fine as I have another top
level site for something else.

when configuring the Sharepoint connector I successfully validated
1- The Sharepoint configuration by clicking on the URL
2- The MS_ProjectServer_PublicDocuments site by clicking on the URL
3- The Windows account (Local account member of the local admin group)
seems fine. I was able to login as that user and see the Sharepoint
configuration page no problem, created sites and lists... PSComPlus
also ran fine with that user.

Even with all of that, I keep on getting the error when saving the WSS
connection config in PWA.

I also ran proxycfg with the following command:
proxycfg -d -p noproxy "<local>,prwsqlp01"

Reset IIS.

I also applied the WSS portion that came with MSP2003 SP1. (the .msi
file just opened and ran relatively quickly)

I am completely lost at what the *$&! is wrong with this connector.

I even tried:
- Removinig WSS from my Web site + delete contents DB.
- Run WSSWIZ.exe to re-extend/re-create the MSP top level site.
- re-ran PSComPlus.exe
- proxycfg -d -p...
- reset IIS
- validated WSS config page, WSS site

With no avail. Im getting pretty desperate. Cheers and thanks a
million ahead of time to whoever can help me with this.
