Problems converting Access 97 to 2003

I am attempting to convert an Access 97 application to Access 2003.

I was given the system.mdw file from the Access 97 installation and
converted it to system2.mdw (Access 2003 format). Then I went
Tools->Security->Workgroup Administrator->Join and joined the workgroup.

Then I went to Tools->Database Utilities->Convert Database and tried to
convert one of the .mdb files. I got a login dialog and logged in with the
user/pwd that was given to me.

When I tried to convert one of the Access 97 .mdb files, I got the "Current
user does not have the permission to convert or enable this database"
dialog.

Tools->Security->User and Group Permissions is greyed out after I do this.
So, I am unable to check the permissions.

I am not an Access developer and am not up to speed on Access security and
how it works. Any help in doing this conversion would be appreciated.

Thanks,

David

One more thing...

I forgot to add that the mdb and mdw files were zipped up and sent to me. I
am working on my own system, not the system that the database is running on.

Hello, I am a current MSDN Universal subscriber. It is my understanding that
Microsoft support will answer within 3 days if no one else does.

I too have this problem. I have a .mdw file for A97 and a .mdb file. When I
join the MDW file in A03, and try to open the .mdw, I the the error "The
current User Account doesn't have permission to convert or enable this
database"

I would try joining the original workgroup file (don't convert it).

Now, open the application, and see if you can convert it.

It is very possible that you don't have the right permissions or
logon/password combination with the correct permissions.

Anyway, try joining the original a97 workgroup file..(and DO NOT try an
convert it).

That might be the case, but you will have to check your contract, and
information you received with that package.

I will say that your PAID support is most certainly NOT going to come from
this newsgroup. This is a public newsgroup, and the people here are simply
users of ms-access who share their knowledge, and help the columbary for
free. In other words, the people here are not working for Microsoft, nor are
they being paid. So, while in my opinion the FREE and voluntary support is
BETTER here then the paid support, it needs to be pointed out that this
newsgroup is strictly a volunteer effort. (so, you are obviously not going
to get your paid support here in a public newsgroup where the rest of the
people here can get great answers for free!).

Hum, you could de-secure the file in a97. (you would have to use a97). I
guess the issue here is being sure that you got the right password and
logon. And, that user is the "owner" of the database. You can also re-create
the workgroup file in a2003, but this assumes you got the right PID that was
used to create the original workgroup file.

I just tried joining a a97 workgroup file, and then opened a rather complex
a97 application, and converted it to a2003..and it converted without
problems.
