Problems converting Word to PDF

I have a 400-plus page document that I am trying to convert over to PDF.
After a few hours (!) it gets to about 60% "getting tag information" then the
computer makes a noise at me and shuts Microsoft Word down. There's not much
in this document - about 10 different sections and a table of contents in
front of each one. We've tried it on several different machines and I even
brought it home to try on my Adobe Professional application. The application
I'm using now is Adobe Acrobat 7.0....

I'm almost done with this thing!!! Any help would be appreciated!

A few hours! There's something badly wrong. I regularly work with very long
documents. The only operation I've ever known take a few hours is a bubble
sort in BASIC in 4K of memory (those were the days...)

I think I found the answer way down in these posts. I will try their
suggestion first and if I have problems will write back. I usually scan the
posted questions before I post myself but I guess I missed it in there!
