The Real Catchops

Having the following problem using Outlook on a new install. Here is what I
did:

1) I just did a fresh install of Vista Ultimate on my HP laptop.
Everything went fine.
2) Then, I commenced to installing Microsoft Office 2007. The install went
without problems. I am able to open Word, Excel (etc.) just fine.
3) I then went into my control panel and set up an email profile. This one
is VERY simple. I set up the profile using my name (Paul) and put my
information in to configure my Gmail account for access using Outlook. I had
done this before when the machine was XP (using Outlook), so I wanted to do
it here too. I got through all of the configuration steps fine. It sent the
email address fine - I even saw the test message when opening my Gmail
account in my browser. So far so good - much like the old configuration.
4) I open outlook - looks fine until I see that it fails upon synching.
5) I hit the send/receive button, same problems synching.
6) Then the kicker - I try to hit the new message button and get the
following error - "You don't have appropriate permission to perform this
operation."
7) I even try other things like creating a new contact - I get the same
error.
8) When I open the details box regarding my synching problem I see the same
error.

Before offering suggestions - here is what I have found and tried after many
hours of googling this issue:

1) I am a machine administrator - so I should have permissions on EVERY
file on this machine.
2) I checked my access to the .pst file that was created in my profile - I
have full control.
3) I checked for any .srs files and/or .dat files and found that I have
full control on any of them.
4) I looked in the registry for the DisablePST key - it was not there - the
default value meaning I should be able to use PST files. I even put it in
there and set it to 0 (giving the ability to use PST files)
5) I have tried to use both the POP3 and IMAP settings to access Gmail.
Both give me the same results. (IMAP - by the way - seems pretty cool -
using Gmail as the server - a little slow, so I'll stay with POP3 for now -
but still cool)
6) I have tried other POP3 email accounts without any success both using my
own email profile and logging in as another user and using that profile.
7) The computer is part of a domain. I have file redirection on, but since
this is part of my profile, it is not part of a network drive.
8) I saw another registry key called NoPST in the .pst file associations.
I deleted it and put it back - had no affect at all either way.

Any suggestions??

I have completely come to my end as far as solutions and need HELP!! If I
can't get this soon, I'll be forced to do something drastic, like use
Thunderbird or something like that.

Please help!! Thanks!
Paul
