Problems Customizing Work 2003 Toolbar

Using XP Office 2003 & trying to customize toolbar buttons on old
laptop I'm now using. Remember dragging commands from the Command
section to the toolbar using Customize. Problem I'm having now is it's
creating multiple toolbar buttons for the same commands. It may have
something to do with the are I'm working in - I'm working down at the
very edge of the toolbar and I know it can get kind of tricky there at
times but I've never seen anything like this.

In addition to the duplication problems, it's also not allowing me to
choose image vs. text and, worst of all, I cant remove any of the
duplicates by dragging them back into the customize dialog box while
it's open . I've even tried deleting by left-clicking on them,since
there is a command on the left clidk menu, but to no avail. Anyone
know a fix for this? I now have an entire toolbar filled with about 8
useless buttons and don't have the ones I need. Thanks a lot!

To add to what Graham has said, you make the choice between image and text
on the right-click menu.

Also, if the toolbar is too wide to display all the buttons it contains, it
would be a good idea to start a new toolbar. If you're not already
displaying the Standard and Formatting toolbars on two rows, by all means do
that (Tools | Customize | Options).
