Problems Installing Office XP 2003 Professional

J

John Smith

My installation freezes at P2561401.CAB which is said not to exist but
appears
on disk directory. Why is this and if the file is corrupted where can I
download a replacement? I have cleaned the disk, and also tried to copy the
disc contents to my HDD, which succeeds until I reach the above file...

Cheers for any help!

Good morning John,
I ran into the same problem with my installation, however with a
different .CAB folder. I do not know if my fix will also work for you or not,
you can see my posted thread about "Installation File Not Found" on page 2 of
this forum for the specifics. Basically, I downloaded the Office 2003
Standard Edition Trial version, compared the file titles in the .CAB folders
and found that they were a 'match', so I copied the entire Office Pro CD
minus the suspect .CAB folder to my hard-drive. Then copied the 'good' .CAB
from the Temp Folder that was created by the self-extracting installer into
the same folder and was able to install the entire package from the
hard-drive. Sort of an unorthadox way of going about it, but it worked for
me. I also contacted Microsoft Support via Email and they are going to send
me another CD copy at no charge, but I just dont like to sit around and wait
for someone else to fix anything for me. At least if you give it a shot, it
may work for you, but at the same time you should be aware that Microsoft's
Support starts to work for you even before the program is installed.

Good luck, and I hope you can begin to enjoy the advances made in this
version of Office soon, as I am just beginning to myself.

Hi, I found this forum because I had the same problem installing M
Office 2003. I did a search through Yahoo for the CAB file: P256140
and responce number 14 returned this web site:

http://www.apctechguy.com/transfer/office 2k3/

From this site I was able to locate and download the corrupt/missin
files.
First of all I copied the CD to my hard drive and started th
installation from there, when it told me the file that was corrupt
deleted it from the installation files on my hard drive and downloade
the replacement to my desktop and copied it to the installation files
I then clicked retry and carried on with the installation - downloadin
the files as necessary.

This worked for me, I hope it works for yo
